Hermitage Plantation Slave Quarters 3D Reconstruction

October 2020

The Hermitage Plantation was located outside Savannah, Georgia. Its primary export was the Savannah Gray Brick which was hand-made by the enslaved people who lived and worked on the site. The slave quarters were constructed of that Savannah Gray Brick and a wooden shingle roof.  While most of these structures no longer stand, two of the slave quarters were acquired by Henry Ford and are part of the collection of Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. This project uses Sketch-Up to imagine the slave cabins within their original context and recreates the resources of the past with modern technology.
